I had the pleasure of working with Might Elk Animation and Guild Hall School of Music & Drama to produce the animated backdrop to Giacomo Smith's extraordinary Jazz concert, which took the audience on a journey through the development of Jazz music in Harlem, New York throughout the 20th Century.

The brief was to animate Elmer Simms' wonderfully illustrated map of Harlem's Jazz nightclubs.
The concert was divided into parts, each focused on a different club in Harlem. To follow along with the journey, the animation zoomed into each club just as the musicians began to play the first song associated with that particular club.

I worked closely with the audio visual team at Guild Hall to figure out the best way to create the animation. We decided that short, looping clips which could be changed on queue would be the best way to make this work smoothly and in time with the concert.
